PancakeSwap launched in September 2020 as an automated market maker on BNB Chain and quickly became the chain's flagship DEX thanks to low fees and fast confirmations. For millions of users it was the first stop for trading BEP-20 tokens, and it remains the dominant liquidity venue on BNB Chain to this day.

The platform has grown far beyond simple swaps. PancakeSwap v3 brought concentrated liquidity for better capital efficiency, while the product suite expanded to include yield farms, Syrup Pools for staking CAKE, perpetual futures, a prediction market, lotteries and IFO token launches. CAKE is the ecosystem's utility and governance token, distributed to liquidity providers and stakers, with a burn mechanism designed to counter emissions. PancakeSwap is a strong choice for BNB Chain natives and fee-sensitive traders, though its breadth of gamified products can feel overwhelming to newcomers and liquidity outside flagship pairs is thinner than on Uniswap.
